OUR STORY

Five generations of baking, from a village café in 1919 to U.S. military bases across Germany today — this is our story

1919
The Foundation
The baking history of our family dates back to 1919, spanning over five generations. Shortly after World War I, Josef Weinand opened "Café Weinand" in Treis-Karden - a place that should become an inspiration for many years to come.

1930-1940s
Family Tradition Takes Root
The bakery survives World War II and becomes an established part of the Treis-Karden community.

The Namesakes
Thirteen-year-old Josie begins working in her family's bakery, where she meets her future husband Klaus, a baker's apprentice. Though Klaus had to leave after his apprenticeship, fate brought him back six months later.

1970-1980s
Community Cornerstone
In their small town of 2,500, Klaus and Josie’s bakery was more than a place to buy bread — it was where the community came together. Known for their work ethic (they even scheduled their wedding on a Monday, the least busy day!), their focus on quality and warmth made the bakery a local favorite.

1990-2000s
The Bakery as a Constant
During these years, Klaus and Josie continued to nurture both their bakery and family. No official training. Just years of watching, helping, tasting, and slowly picking things up.
